Old garage parts counter. Thursday afternoon. You're holding this original 1940 Packard Eight grille side insert pair — LH and RH, OEM vintage Packard trim for 110 / 120 / Super 8 style applications.
A guy notices them immediately while pretending to understand a conversation about prewar front-end trim. He asks where you got them. You ignore him.
Ten minutes later he appears near a box of chrome moldings and asks again. You continue walking.
By lunch he's recruited two Packard guys and a man who says “left and right grille inserts” like he personally restored every front end in America before the war. They're standing around discussing the pair like they might be the final chrome pieces between a proper 1940 Packard face and a sad empty nose that looks like it forgot its teeth.
Nobody wants to say how hard these are to find.

Preston Turdsworth picked these up, saw “grille inserts,” and became convinced they were fancy chrome dental work. He held one near his mouth, asked if Packard made upper and lower teeth, then wondered whether the left side chewed better than the right.
No dentist was called.
I needed to be somewhere else.
So I went straight to Dorsia. I ordered grille-polished pheasant over smoked chrome foam with pickled hood-nose onions, charred Packard crest crumbs, and a sauce the waiter described as “prewar brightwork with a troubling amount of bite.”
The waiter nodded once and said, "Excellent choice, sir."
I picked these up right before some bozo did.
