Carter 4429S 750 CFM. D8 April 1968 date code. This is correct for 1968 440 Magnum with automatic transmission no A/C applications. This has been completely disassembled, then all parts and pieces have been treated to two ultrasonic cleaning cycles in a specialized aircraft aluminum solution that is non-corrosive. After cleaning and ensuring all passages are clear, it was assembled using a high quality kit with a leather accelerator pump and new mixture screws and springs for better idle quality fine tuning. New brass bushings were installed for the primary throttle shaft to ensure smooth operation. New Edelbrock style .101 primary and .098 secondary jets were installed, along with new .070/.037 metering rods and orange springs. The original domed piston caps were filled with a 2 part epoxy then sanded flat to simulate the flat plates used on the Edelbrock carbs while retaining a stock look. Floats are reset to stock specs. The exterior of the body was coated with a 500° engine enamel in cast aluminum, which not only looks great, but is easy to keep clean and is fuel resistant. New stainless steel screws were used to secure both the air horn and choke pulloff. Gasoila fuel rated non-hardening thread sealant was used on the front booster screws to prevent fuel seepage onto the front of the body. The small parts were finished in gold to simulate plating so they are protected from corrosion. Mineral spirits were used to verify correct functioning of the accelerator pump circuit. I rebuilt a 4429 that I have on my restored '68 440 Magnum and it runs excellent with this combination.
