Genuine Packard Motor Car Company 3-speed manual "Handishift" column-shift transmission, casting number 333571 clearly visible on the top of the main case. Used across Packard's 17th through 22nd/23rd Series cars (1939 through the late 1940s) on the Six-cylinder and Junior Eight (One-Twenty / Super Eight) lines.
Features:
- 3-speed constant-mesh gearbox, column-shift configuration
- Side-mounted curved shift linkage arms for column shifter hookup
- 10-spline front input shaft
- Rear output flange, compatible with a standard Packard driveshaft yoke or a Borg-Warner R-9/R-11 overdrive unit
These Packard 3-speeds have a following well beyond Packard collectors — they were a favorite in 1950s vintage hot-rodding and drag racing, prized for being nearly indestructible behind Ford flathead V8 and early Chevy inline-6 swaps. A great find for a period-correct hot rod build as well as a Packard restoration.
Condition: Sold as-is, from a Los Angeles collection. Surface dirt/grime as pictured, has not been disassembled or tested — shift arms move freely, input shaft turns. Please review all photos closely and ask any questions before buying.
